Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Sacrilege”

Yeah-Yeah-Yeahs-Mosquito-608x607

It seems as if the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have grown up. Like the Flaming Lips, I don’t think they will ever totally lose their goofy, weirdo tendencies (see the album cover above), but fame/budget/label/expectations have clearly influenced the band to a certain extent. I mean, c’mon, there is a full on choir at the end of “Sacrilege,” the first song from their forthcoming Mosquito LP. While “Sacrilege” still finds Karen O and company mixing angst with art, they have come a long way from the scrappy trio that sounded lean yet gigantic on Fever to Tell . The “Gimmie Shelter” esqe fadeout on this “Sacrilege” is probably a, well, “Sacrilege” to old fans, but it is nothing if not grandiose. Not sure if that is a good thing or bad, but still excited to hear the LP in full.
