Dylan Ettinger “Dawn” + Halasan Bazar “Sometimes Happy Sometimes Sad”
Two Moon Glyph alums are back with new material, albeit on different labels for both of the artists. Following up on his excellent split 7″ with Xander Harris (and a Not Not Fun released LP), Ettinger returns with his dark, wobbly electronic dirges on his Night People tape Crucify Your Love. Listen below to “Dawn,” a smokey journey into a haunted house of deep synth grooves that shows Ettinger exploring the shadowy realms of ambient pop music. Not sure if the whole tape is this bleak, but at least from the first song released it seems like Ettinger is at his intense, hyper-focused best on his new tape. Buy the tape HERE.
The other release is a new LP Space Junk from vintage pop spinsters Haslasan Bazar. Their CS on Moon Glyth last year was a jangly adventure through warm, 60’s era garge pop (and that doesn’t even mention his amazing track on the Opal compilation from the label). From the sounds of the first song from their new LP, streaming below, the band are back for more of their throwback pop. “Sometimes Happy Sometimes Sad” adds a little layer of grit to the bands pallet, but still features bright melodies and an aesthetic that seems to transport the listener to an era long before the band were even born.
