Stream: Blue Ruin | Part Time EP (Release show TONIGHT at 7th Street Entry)
You have to give them credit, these Blue Ruin gents, that they wear their Replacements love on their flannel and thrift store leather jacket sleeves. The band poured their literal and figurative hearts into their four song EP Part Time, a record that the band point out was recorded in the “same room as Let It Be.” The songs actually veer more towards the polished swagger of The Gaslight Anthem than the sloppy genius of the ‘Mats, but the spirit is there over the short, 10 minute long EP. The songs all revolve around scrappy aesthetic of garage-punk-pop, wringing anthemic melodies out of power chords and the throat shredding vocals, but they do find a way to mix it up over the course of the record. Some songs go straight for the radio dial, while others have a slight soulful swing, but fans of plucky, earnest songwriting and a dollop of distortion may have a new record to add to the collection. Listen to the EP below and check them out tonight (Sun 3/17) at the Entry for their release show with Hollow Boys and Fury Things.
