Greg Grease “Black King Cole”
Greg Grease caused a stir both locally and beyond with his excellent debut LP Cornbread, Pearl and G last year, and he is quickly turning around with a new EP that will surely keep the buzz going. The Black King Cole EP will be released May 21st via the Sound Verite Records/Riverlife Dry Goods Records, just in time for Grease’s performance at Soundset. Grease said in the press release that the title track is “the feel good celebration of who we are despite what has happened to us, we’re still here going strong and getting stronger.” It is a good synopsis of the music he has created so far and seems to be a mission statement for an artist who combines social commentary with beats and flows that stem from a bygone area in hop hop. His efforts already have made him one of the most exciting young MC’s in Minneapolis (and beyond), and the Black King Cole EP is no doubt going to spread that appeal. See Greg Grease tonight as he opens for Marijuana Deathsquads on night 1 of their May residency at Icehouse in South Minneapolis.
