HEARTSWIN: “Tammuz”
I have come to generally expect very interesting things from Australian record label specializing in experimental oddities, Wood and Wire. The latest gem in the unique label’s discography is from Sydney artist Sar Friedman, who records under the name HEARTSWIN. Friedman (who is also associated with Pink Mountaintops) recently released Tammuz, an epic 22 minute single that is part sonic mind warp and part proggy mythical journey. Conceptually based on the astrological transit, Saturn Return, Tammuz blends a mix of traditional instrumentation as well voice into an electronically modulated noise construct. At its loudest Tammuz unleashes an assault of drone and at its quietest is nearly ambient. The overall feeling that the song evokes though is an epic sense of scope, which depending on your mood can either affect terrifying doom or a dizzying sense of wonder. You can stream Tammuz in its entirety below or download the track here.
