Flashback Friday: Royal Sprite – Yang Hai Mun Kong
The first installment of the Thai Funk feature, out on Light in the Attic a while back, is an interesting beast. It is populated to a large extent by oddball covers, but there are a few stone cold gems in the mix. The best is “Yang Hai Mun Kong,” a riotously funky track with a razor-sharp guitar line, a high-strung matching vocal line and a melody and groove that find you scrambling to hit repeat. It is a stunning song that virtually by itself makes this comp worth owning. The rest is good, but this track is the kind of crate-digging diamond that makes comps like Thai Funk Vol. 1 so great.
