Preview: Free Angela Reissue on Secret Stash Records
Secret Stash have put out material in the past that has had political undercurrents, but nothing as bold as their latest re-issue “Free Angela,” out on August 20th. The record finds deep soul cuts from artists on the Sound of Soul label, including the haunted title track sung by Larry Saunders. The record is an interesting artifact as it finds talented artists really centering their music on one subject, which is raising awareness on the situation Ms. Davis found herself in at the time. It is a powerful record that is a historical marker both in its subject matter and the heavy, aching heart and angry soul music that fills the LP. Look for a full review on Reviler soon.
