U.S. Girls “Overtime” & “28 Days”
I mostly know the one woman band U.S. Girls from her noisy and great record U.S. Girls on KRAAK from a few years back, but that exposure didn’t lead me to expect the doo-wop pop goodness that are the two lead singles for her forthcoming Free Advice Column EP. “Overtime” sounds like a a lost, damaged Motown song dragged through a muddy pit of fuzz. “28 Days” is less ambitious than the amazing “Overtime,” but still a pop gem scrubbed a bit of the noise and chaos so omnipresent in U.S. Girl’s older work. If the first two singles are any indication, Free Advice Column has the makings to be a breakout release for U.S. Girls….whether longtime fans think this is a good thing or not is TBD.
