Marijuana Deathsquads “Ewok Sadness” / Beat Detectives “Los Angeles”
It is going to get weird. Both Marijuana Deathsquads and Beat Detectives will be releasing new records this fall, and both have offered up a preview of their spastic, damaged electronic jam
Marijuana Deathsquads are building off of a growing national presence and will be releasing their most anticipated LP, Oh My Sexy Lord, Oct. 15 on Totally Gross National Product. They released the outstanding Music Rocks EP I & II earlier this year for free, and OMSL lead single “Ewok Sadness” seems to build on that momentum. Starting slow and featuring vocals that are about as clear as we have on record from the group, the band build into whirlwind conclusion that features their usual explosion of noise, drums and effect-strangled vocals.
Beat Detectives are a local duo that have officially only put out one tape, but their house-leaning sound has caught the attention of the influential 100% Silk label, who according to the info attached to the video below will be releasing something called Music 2 at some point in the near future. It is a big step for this local group, and the song released with the announcement is a twitchy, colorful track that showcases the groups slippery beats, garbled vocals and colorful grooves. More info on the release as we receive it.
Marijuana Deathsquads are headlining the Totally Gross National Product showcase this Saturday at Icehouse.
