Darkside “Golden Arrow” & “Paper Trails”
Darkside created one of my favorite EPs of the last few years with their 2011 self-titled release, which mixed Nicolas Jaar’s haunted soundscapes with Dave Harrington’s stinging guitar work. After that under the radar release, the band will be making a bigger splash next month with their debut LP Psychic on Matador Records. Judging by the first two tracks released from the record, which you can hear below, the duo are keeping the general feel of the EP while stretching their sound even further. Jaar as usual creates a noisy canvass that is minimal yet gigantic while Harrington’s guitars dart in and out of the shadowy material. There is even some singing. Fleshed out and ready to take on the world, Darkside’s spooky ambiance will be hitting the world on Oct. 8th.
