The good folks at Secret Stash have brought us funky and soulful comps of music from around the globe over the last few years, but recently they’ve really honed in on the here and now. Starting with their Twin Cities Funk & Soul comp, they’ve been highlighting local music at a fever pace that has brought their label to an even higher level. Both on reissues, but also on new records and on stage, the label has brought attention to Minneapolis musicians who had been long forgotten, or never known, to far too many music heads. One of the best discoveries was Sonny Knight, who will be releasing a LP of new music backed up by the Secret Stash house band The Lakers in the near future.
