Stream: Mark McGuire ‘Along The Way’ (Show TONIGHT!)
Mark McGuire has an immense body of work that if he quit playing today would stand very proudly on its own. Most notably to me personally is his work with interstellar trio Emeralds and his amazing solo LP Living With Yourself, which still packs a punch every time I listen to it.
Despite his gigantic and impressive back catalog, Mark McGuire is actually just a dude in his 20s making ethereal soundscape on a fairly regular basis. His latest work is the LP Along the Way, which like his best work wobbles and darts around, letting loose manic guitar explosions over lush beds of synths. It ranges from chilled out meditations to the cascading and immense 12 minute epic “The Instinct,” which anchors the album after being a stand alone single last year. It is nearly 70 minutes long, but doesn’t feel overdone in the slightest, a trick McGuire seems adept at achieving.
You can see McGuire tonight at the Turf Club with Jenny Hval and locals Wavepool.
Stream the whole LP over at Fader.
