Oneohtrix Point Never – Music For Steamed Rocks
While the Black Friday-ness that has descended upon Record Store Day has dampened much of my enthusiasm for the event, releases like Commissions I by Oneohtrix Point Never, released in conjunction with the event, still give me hope. Gathered from different venues that commissioned Daniel Lopatin (aka OPN) at various points over the last few years, the 12″ is a mesmerizing collection of his immaculate minimal ambient music. Listen below to the cautious, fraught, and overwhelming beautiful “Music for Steamed Rocks,” which is a testament to not only Lopatin’s genius but to a genre of music that can evoke more feelings without words than 99% of musicians can with them. A stunning song and a stunning release.
