M.anifest & HHP – Jigah
My knowledge of African hip-hop pretty much begins and ends with Minneapolis-via-Ghana rapper M.anifest, who we here in Minnesota have been lucky to have had a front row seat to watch rise through the international music ranks over the last few years. His latest track, “Jigah,” brings him together with South African rapper HHP, a worthy partner who goes toe to toe with him via interwoven rhymes while gliding over a buzzing, old-school Wes Mape’s beat. Like the best of M.anifest’s work, it has strains of classic hip hop, pristine production, and well constructed and delivered lyrical content, all infused with flavor from their home countries. I hadn’t kept up with M.anifest recently, so I was glad to see new material and equally glad it lived up to his great previous work. No word if this means an EP or LP is coming, but we’ll keep you up to date.
