Thursday: Comb Boats
Comb Boats is a new band but brings together some players we’re all pretty familiar with: Freddie Votel (Skoal Kodiak, Cows), Isaac Rotto (Gay Beast) and Ben Brockway (Styrofoam Duck). They’ve only played a couple shows together and have no public recordings but this video of them at the Hexagon piqued my interest.
Friday: Pagoda ov Thunderbolt
Thunderbolt Pagoda has always been one of my favorites bands in town and for this year’s Heliotrope they have something a little special planned. Joining them on guitar is Comets ov Cupid’s mastermind Jason Kesselring. The band has a new album recorded so hopefully we’ll hear some new material in their Friday night set.
Saturday: Oaks
Oaks return to Heliotrope for the second time this year after they debut at Heliotrope 9. They’ve got a record coming out on Modern Radio later this year so expect something new from the duo.
Heliotrope X kicks off tonight at Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis. Tickets are $12 a day or get a 3 day pass for $30. We’ll be providing photo coverage and more of the whole weekend.
