Heliotrope X: Jon’s Recommended Picks
THURSDAY
Robust Worlds
It has been a pleasure to hear Chris Rose’s solo endeavor, Robust Worlds, evolve over the past few years. Tonight I am sure that he’ll weave elegant tapestries of psychedelic guitar and vocals into a cavernous echo of sound that is sure to fill up the tiny Intermedia Arts space.
FRIDAY
Wild Wing
I have only seen Wild Wing once but they blew me away opening for Thunderbolt Pagoda (who are also playing on Friday night). The group is comprised of a number of artists you might recognize from other projects – Josh Journey-Heinz, Aby Wolf, Chris Smalley, and Matthew Kazama. Together they create a crazy blast of power-prog that I highly recommend you experience firsthand.
SATURDAY
Nomia
Last year at Heliotrope I was very impressed with quartet Nomia’s powerfully textured instrumental sound. The band combines a number of different styles into an atmospheric, enveloping wash of sound. A great band to close out the weekend with.
