Despite the chaotic sound brought forth by terror-rap crew Death Grip, there does seem to be a method to their madness. The group seem to be as dedicated to non-traditional releases as they do to to upending the rap game. On their latest surprise release, Niggas on the Moon, MC Ride, drummer Zach Hill, and producer Andy Morin are joined, in some form of fashion, by Bjork. Despite this big development, the album had zero promotion and was released unceremoniously earlier this week. It is unclear to me if they are all samples or if she actually was part of creating the sound-tornadoes that became this album, but either way it was pretty damn surprising to see her name tied to this album. There are moments where the band seem to take Bjork’s “weirder is better” inspiration, but mostly they stick to their thick-as-hell beats and neck-vein-popping rhymes from MC Ride. It is as disorienting, and wonderful, as ever. Niggas on the Moon is the first part of a double LP titled The Powers the B, which will see a full release later this year.
