Rodrigo Amarante: “Cavalo” / Show Tonight
Fans of Brazilian Samba take note – singer songwriter Rodrigo Amarante is performing this evening at the Icehouse. The Rio-born singer/songwriter has a sound that combines the classic sound of Samba with modern pop elements. You may remember him from band Little Joy, who received some acclaim in 2008 for their debut record (which also combined samba with rock music). Amarante’s sound is fairly similar to Little Joy’s (whom he fronted) though less rock-oriented and with more of a folk/tropicalia vibe (occasionally recalling Caetano Veloso). Jenny O opens the show and the evening begins at 10pm.
