Frankie Teardrop “Raiders” (EP Release Show Sunday!)
Previewing their forthcoming EP (out 7/15 on No Problem Records), local group Frankie Teardrop shared the title track from their Raiders EP. Diverting from the lo-fi, slightly-goofy surf/punk/garage that first caught my attention on their Tough Guy EP, “Raiders” is more serious, studio-produced sound and has a wide-eyed, 80’s movie soundtrack feel. It is a richly melodic track, and rolls through the speakers on a wave of lush, shimmering effects. While I really liked their scrappy, rippped-jeans-and-spilled-beer aesthetic before, they seem perfectly competent to pull off this sound as well. Not sure if it is an indication of a wholesale shift, or just this single, but it is an interesting change. You can find out more on Sunday night (and buy the tape EP from them!) when they have their EP release show with a stacked linkup featuring Whatever Forever, Teenage Moods, and the Velveteens. Listen to the track below, and if you can’t make it to the show, cop the tape from their bandcamp page.
