Scout Paré-Phillips: Fields of Ash EP (and Show)
Lino Lakes may be a bit of a drive from the Twin Cities but an event happening this Thursday should make it worth the trip. There is an excellent free show taking place at the Hammerheart Brewery, featuring (local/formerly local?) Blood and Sun, The Quaking Bogge, and NYC musician/photographer Scout Paré-Phillips. If Paré-Phillips isn’t familiar to you it might be that she’s the only one on the bill without local roots. She performs darkly operatic neofolk to the tune of autoharp, guitar, and percussion, and she’s excellent! Paré-Phillips’ music is rooted in the folk tradition though she also employs considerable dramatic range in ways that expand the sound in bombastic new directions. And her voice is pristine – full of depth, texture, and carrying tremendous gravitas. It should go down well with a pint of Rune Stone Stout (or one of Hammerheart’s numerous other meticulously crafted beers). See you Thursday!
