Grouper “Call Across Rooms”
It seems almost too perfect that the first song from the new Grouper (Liz Harris)LP Ruins was released on a dreary, cold and rainy day here in Minneapolis. We’ve witnessed Harris venturing into the shadows of deconstructed pop music over the last few years, creating some of the most fraught and beautiful music of her time. Below you can listen to “Call Across Rooms,” a sparse piece featuring piano and vocals over a fuzzy bed of static, a song that feels like it is gliding along in the darkness, ready to plunge into the abyss at any moment. As always, it is powerfully restrained and hypnotically pristine. Can’t wait to hear the whole LP, which comes out 10/31 on Kranky.
