Run the Jewels “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry” & “Blockbuster Night Part 1” (MPLS show 11/20)
It wasn’t clear how long the adventure would last when El-P & Killer Mike formalized their very productive relationship under the Run the Jewels title, but we are approaching their second LP together next month, so it seems to be going well. You can sample some new sounds from the duo below ahead of their forthcoming release of LP2, and you can catch their always great live show when they come back to Minneapolis on Nov. 20th for a show at the Fine Line Music Cafe. First is the brutally streamlined beat and tightly-wound rhymes of “Blockbuster Night Part 1,” followed by the Adult Swim released banger “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry,” which is a terror dome of bravado and guttural baselines. Both show little signs of the duo running out of the ideas that made their debut one of the best rap albums of last year.
