Horse Lords “Outer East”

There are those moments when you find a band and develop such an affinity that you absorb their work with the intensity of the nearly drowned coming up for air. Horse Lords, who are releasing their sophomore LP Hidden Cities on NNA Tapes on Nov. 4, fulfilled this description my first spin through “Outer East.” A nearly 13 minute opus that bobs and weaves into different genres, time signatures, keys and worlds, is a knockout track that is glued together by the groove and spirit of krautrock. The four piece clearly have the chops to noodle, but the grounding to keep things from wandering too far from the beating heart. After circling back a few times on this great track, and catching up on their first LP and other work (seriously, how did I miss out on these guys?!?!), I went from zero to wildly excited for the forthcoming LP. You should too.
