Introducing: White Boyfriend
Who is Minneapolis band White Boyfriend? According to their bandcamp bio they are “two queers and a lady” who came into this world as Howly Dogs and have since become graduated into their current moniker. They were “born on the coast,” recorded their debut two song EP in New Haven, CT, but now seem to be Minnesotans, at least for the time being. And we are lucky to have them! They make off-kilter quirky pop music that has contains trace elements of new wave and folk. Their EP Twins contains two songs: “Loup of You” and “The Feathered Frontier.” The former is a deliberately paced, moody tune that contains synth lines that occasionally sound like they were lifted from The Chronic. “Feathered Frontier” is a more upbeat song that pairs skittish beats with wobbly synths and the bands’ pointedly cryptic lyricism. It is tough to form a solid impression based on two songs alone – but so far I like what I hear. Looking forward to hearing/seeing more of White Boyfriend around the Twin Cities soon.
