Andrew Broder + Crescent Moon “Ritual”

Over a brooding, claustrophobic beat from Andrew Broder (Fog, Cloak Ox), Crescent Moon unloads just over two minutes of tightly wound rhymes that mirror the darkness of the canvass he is painting over. Even after multiple listens, I keep finding new things to love about “Ritual,” a song that came with no warning and little fanfare. The beat, which gives Death Grips a run for their money in terms of pound-for-pound intensity, is a shadowy kaleidoscope, with twitchy high hats, rattling bass and gooey synths and collapsing on top of each other. Most rappers would get lost in the dark waves and hypnotic gore that Broder created, but Crescent Moon isn’t a rapper to ever be overshadowed. Working around, and through, the massive tapestry, he only lifts the amazing track to another level. Not sure if this is part of a larger project, but we can only hope.
