Curt Oren: “Let It In”
Curt Oren is a saxophone player and free jazz weirdo from Iowa City (I mean “weirdo” as a compliment). He creates arrangements of experimental sound, from primitive saxophone freakouts to collages of found sound. I don’t know a ton about Curt, but I dig his unorthodox sensibilities. And I really like this track “Let It In” from Oren’s self-released album I LOVE MY DOG. From what I have gathered about Oren’s aesthetic, “Let It In” seems like a bit of a stylistic outlier, being that it is a minimal piano-driven melody with a guest vocalist (Nora Petran). And I am down with the wilder side of Oren’s style as well. But for whatever reason, this is the track that sticks out the most for me. It’s about a dog. And its very pretty.
