Introducing: The horn-driven, soulful funk of Gospel Machine
Gospel Machine are the funky amalgamation of names that will be familiar to Minneapolis/St. Paul music fans. Stirring, church-ready vocals from Jayanthi Kyle (Black Audience) are lifted to the sky by a soulful, charging collective featuring members of Brass Messengers on horns and Jon Davis on bass clarinet. It is part revival, part sweaty nightclub, a concoction that the group calls “garage gospel.” You can sample their sound below via the mercurial “Them Young Girl Blues” from the bands forthcoming debut LP Your Holy Ghost. If you like what you hear, the band this Saturday at Anchor Fish and Chips at 6pm as part of the Art a Whirl festivities.
