Best Local Albums and Songs 2015.5

  1. Night Court – Law & Order

Some of the Twin Cities’ most creative talents got together to make a cop procedural themed experimental/electronic album. It is unsurprisingly very good!

  1. Jacob Pavek – Illume

Pavek was unknown to me until I caught him open for Olivia Chaney this Summer. His new record is a stunner.

  1. False – Untitled

An absolutely unrelenting album that is actually frightening to listen to. And frighteningly good.

  1. Beat Detectives – Climate Change

Fucked up dance music in the best possible way – I am still not sure how to classify this one.

  1. Yingthi – Beyond the Threshold

A terrifically weird odyssey from underrated local artist Yingthi

  1. Warehouse Eyes – Prisms

This is an EP but its shows a lot of progress from the band’s (also good) record from last year.

  1. The Nightingale Trio – Letya

I am a sucker for Eastern European folk/vocal music and these ladies do it really well.

  1. International Novelty Gamelan – MetallaphoniaI

The first album by the local Gamelan band pressed to vinyl. And well worth whatever it took to get that done.

  1. Swami John Reis and the Blind Shake – Modern Surf Classics

A strong showing this year from the local favorites (and a guest!)

  1. Yoni Yum – Clam Glam
