Enjoy two new songs from melodic Aussie punk Royal Headache
When I first heard the debut LP from Aussie garage punks Royal Headache, it was almost like a fever dream. The fuzzy rickenbacker chords, the chugging beat, and “those vocals.” “Those vocals” belong to a guy names Shogun, whose grizzled punk-meets-Rod-Stewart pipes take the band to another level. That being said, even on the instrumental tracks on their debut s/t LP, they were a group that captured my favorite aspect of music, which is a militant “more with less” mindset. There wasn’t a spare chord, note, solo, drum break or anything. Every minute was accounted for, and it was powerful. They also were great live at the Triple Rock in a small half-room show, which helped to seal the deal. After a long, long wait, the group are back with their sophomore effort, and based off of the first two tracks released, there will be no sophomore slump. Listen below to the title track to High, a loud and spirited number that showcases the group making music that is both heavy and sweet, and “Another World,” which finds them ratcheting things up a notch, both in volume and content (there is talk of eating faces). Both sound great, and have us excited to hear the whole LP. They are coming back across the ocean, but no stops as of now in Minnesota. Let’s hope that changes. High will be out August 1st on What’s the Rupture
