New Adult Swim songs from Shabazz Palaces & Clams Casino/Danny Brown
Every summer Adult Swim releases new songs from a (usually) solid cast of artists, and this summer has lived up to expectations. Ranging from sludgy metal to alt rock, the series is always a delightful mix of genres. This particular post focuses on two releases from the hip-hop community that have stood out from the 2015 series. The first is a subdued banger from Danny Brown, with the always outstanding Clams Casino providing the backdrop. Over a haunted, meditative beat, Brown waxes about the choices we face, and wonders if they are worth it. It takes Brown’s considerable talents and, combined with the lush beats of Clams, creates one of the most fully realized songs I have heard from him. The second offering is from the experimental rap duo Shabazz Palaces. They have made two knockout LPs (and a handful of amazing EPs), so the expectations are always high from me, and they don’t disappoint. With “The Mystery of Lonnie The Døn,” they wander pretty far down the rabbit hole into a textural netherworld where hip hop, soul, electronic, ambient and R&B have melted into something beautifully unique. Even by their usual standards, this is a thick, convoluted and mesmerizing track.
Both tracks are outstanding and free to download. Find all of the 2015 Adult Swin Singles HERE.
