(Re)Introducing: the fuzzy chaos of “Center” from the Cult of Lip (frmly Vats) debut EP
We’ve covered the fuzzy local trio Vats before, but in honor of the groups transformation into the Cult of Lip, we are bestowing on them a (re)introduction. The band are releasing a self-titled debut EP under their new name, and will be celebrating it with a show on November 14th at the Kitty cat Klub (details HERE). You can listen below to one of the four songs on the tape, the smoldering siren of pysch-shoegaze that is “center.” It finds the spirit and energy of garage rock fused with the shambolic, effect-laden smog of shoegaze, creating a tug-of-war between its heaviness and its youthful buoyancy. They’ve got a new name, but for those of us who enjoyed Vats, the Cult of Lip should scratch that same itch, and maybe even expand on their sound in ways that will surprise you. Listen to “center” and buy the tape below.
