Check out deconstructed pop from RONiiA’s new EP (Show THURSDAY at Icehouse)

Despite the fact that RONiia have been circling the TC music scene for a while, the trio continue to conjure up new sounds that take the pieces of pop music and glue them together in new and interesting ways. Comprised of Nona Marie Invie (Dark Dark Dark), Mark McGee (Makr, Marijuana Deathsquads, Father You See Queen, To Kill a Petty bourgeoisie, etc) and Fletcher Barnhill (Fugitive), the group have made a few releases of dark soundscapes that float around Nona’s hypnotic vocals. Their latest effort is the Sisters EP, which they are releasing on Totally Gross National Product.

You can check out the first song from the EP, the jittery “Love Me,” in the video above. It is more raucous and wiry than their previous efforts, jumping from garage drums to strung-out vocals in a way that has more of a jump than much of their older material. It feels lighter and sharper, and seems like the band are venturing into a new territory. Looking forward to hearing the whole EP.
