Watch the bruised fuzz-pop of Ego Death’s “Orange Soda” (April Kitty Cat Klub Residency Kickoff TONIGHT!)
I’ve been digging Ego Death since stumbling across their 2015 tape (which is on a list of tapes to be covered for Tape Tuesday at some point…), and they are back with a new 4-song EP Daze. Above you can dig the fuzzy, emotive “Orange Soda” from the record. The song captures the spirit of the distorted-yet-ornimented pop music that came out of Athens in the late 90’s, combining an earnest appeal with some barbed-wire guitar and bass work that give it some edge. It has an undercurrent of sadness, but a fighting spirit and buoyant energy that keep you circling back for another listen. It is a good taste of the band’s sound, and if you are interested in more, watch here in future weeks for more about their last tape and their new EP.
The band are spending the whole month of April celebrating their new EP with a bunch of great local bands every Tuesday in April at the Kitty Cat Klub. Tonight (4/5) is a stacked lineup featuring Hollow Boys, LOTT and Murder Shoes, with the next few weeks lineups below. All shows are free and start at 9:30, so don’t miss out.
