Introducing: Tony Peachka
Local quartet Tony Peachka lead off their Ep Hello Tony with a song called “Fall Asleep To.” And indeed their sound could easily lull a listener to sleep. It’s not that it’s boring. TP’s songs are pretty, gentle, and they generally aren’t in much of a hurry to get where they are going (though they are often over too soon). The band, comprised of Chloe, Melissa, Stephanie, and Hayley, builds their sound out of soft, purring vocal melodies that are often only sparsely accompanied by instruments. When they are it is primarily acoustic guitar, restrained drums, and quiet field recordings. Lyrically speaking singers Chloe and Melissa are fairly opaque and a bit oddball, but they also touch on some serious themes (like pregnancy for instance in “Breakfast”).
There is not a ton of material to peruse yet but you can stream Tony Peachka’s EP in its entirety on their bandcamp page. If you dig it, their next show is this Saturday at a place called “Licorice Beach.”
