Listen to the warped electro-pop of Prince Rama (Show Tonight!)

Taraka and Nimai Larson are sisters who make wide-eyed electronic pop music under the name Prince Rama. I’ve gone back and forth on their music over their years, but their latests LP is a good prism into their calculated but off-kilter world. Inspired, according to them, by “near-death experience Taraka underwent at an ancient Viking ruin on the Estonian island of Vȫrmsi,” it has moments of buzzing post-punk, some shimmering electronics, danceable left-field pop and a boatload of warm melodies, wrapped together with some good old fashioned art school weirdness. Their live show has often been as confounding as their recorded output, so if you want to check out something cool on a Thursday night, head down to the 7th Street Entry for their tour stop here in the Twin Cities. The show will be opened by great locals Oaks and Sasha Conda, so get there early. More info/RSVP HERE.
