Crystal Myslajek: “Shimmer” / Circadia Release Show Thursday
Ever since we posted “Golden Ratio,” we’ve been pretty excited to hear the rest of Crystal Myslajek’s gestating solo project. Myslajek (formerly of Brute Heart) has struck out in an interesting new direction, creating sparsely elegant piano & vocal compositions that recall both the ethereal floatiness of Julianna Barwick as well as the weighty melancholy of Liz Harris (Grouper). The new project was born out of the Cedar Cultural Center’s 416 Club Commissions, and has been realized with some assistance from of Liz Draper (bass) John Marks (production, synths) and Chris Hepola (percussion). Myslajek will release her debut cassette Circadia Thursday night (4/28) at Icehouse. You can get another glimpse of what the show will offer below in “Shimmer,” a slow-building piece that combines Myslajek’s ghostly vocals with somber piano melody and variable percussion (as well as a little woodwind around the edges).
