Introducing: City Counselor
We’re big fans of both Lunch Duchess (who released one of the best local albums this year) and BOYF (who released one of the best local albums the year previous) so it should come as no surprise that we’re also into City Counselor, the new solo project of Nicky Leingang who happens to be a member of both.
Leingang has a new record coming out in a couple of weeks, Public Record, and what you can hear over at her bandcamp page shows definite promise. Only a handful of songs are currently streamable but they include a Donald Trump-sampling track “Ask the Gays,” a track featuring someone either being driven to ecstasy or extreme pain (given it’s called “Election Night” we’re guessing the latter) and a moody synthpop lesson on morals (“The Flood”).
Leingang terms her style “politically-fatigued sad-pop” which should come as no surprise given that shit pretty much sucks right now. If you agree with the previous statement, Public Record could just be a great album for you to use to commune with your deepest sads. When we’re not crushingly depressed we’re pretty stoked to hear the rest, which will be available after a 1/13 record release show that will happen at Reverie, cost 5 bucks, and will also feature Fort Wilson Riot, Wetter, Farr Well, Mike Queenz, and DJ Devata Daun (sounds like a pretty good deal).
