Yoni Yum: “Talk To Me About Your Kinks”
“Talk To Me About Your Kinks” by local band Yoni Yum is a single that’s already nearly three years old. But since I just heard it on the radio for the first time tonight, its new to me. Yoni Yum first crossed my radar in 2015 with Clam Glam, an album I heartedly recommend if you are into lo fi, outsider pop. YY consists of Jess Buns, Jacob Laqua, Wade Kapphahn, Neil Kapphahn, and Joe Porter. Our old pal Sam Molstad (Orchard Thief) has also contributed to their album art. They make weird, psychedelic synth-punk that occasionally sounds like what the B-52’s might have sounded like if Kate Pierson started getting heavily into acid, ejected Fred Schneider, and took over the band completely. And if that sounds as intriguing to you as it does to me, you have probably come to the right place.
