Listen to the Best of Legendary Tropicalia Band Os Mutantes Ahead of Their Show Tuesday at the Cedar
Os Mutantes are one of those bands whose legacy shines further and brighter than just the amazing music they created. If you aren’t familiar with their revolutionary music during the tumultuous 1960s under a brutal dictatorship in Brazil, I’d suggest diving down any of the numerous rabbit holes around the internet that tell their story. In the shorter term, you have a chance to see the 2017 version of the band Tuesday night at the Cedar Cultural Center in a show you should not miss. If you aren’t familiar with their work, check out the collection of songs above, which are from the David Byrne curated Everything is Possible ‘best of’ LP. Showcasing their warm psych, jazz twists, avant-garde soundscapes and Latin rhythms, the group created a sound that feels both classic and yet somehow from the future. Imagine hearing this in the late 1960s!
