Fujiya & Miyagi bring the infectious dance funk on “Solitaire”
Rising to a modest level of fame alongside mid-2000s DFA artists, Fujiya & Miyagi have been keeping the beat alive over the years, most recently with the strutting and hypnotic “Solitaire.” Like the best of that era, it is highbrow and precise while having a strong undercurrent of sweaty dance floor hijinks. It is an ear worm of a song, with galloping drums and an infectious melody wrapped tightly in a polished (but not too glossy) package. I’ve popped in and out of their work over the years, but glad this one crossed my radar as it is a killer jam.
