Introducing: Wetter
Wetter is a very new local band on the scene – so much so that there is just not that much detail on them to find other than a facebook page and handful of recorded tracks online. Most of that material consists of an album, people you may know, that only features one band member, Melissa Jones. Jones (whom you may recognize from Tony Peachka) wrote all of the songs and recorded them on her bedroom using a four track. While there are three additional members of the band, Rose, Joe, and Jordan, Jones seems to be the originator and primary force behind the Wetter’s creation. You can check out the band as a quartet on the single “Truth Song” (and you should because its a great song) but otherwise Wetter’s current recordings are a bit of a solo project.
Jones’ songs on people you may know consists mainly of low fi, acoustic guitar, some percussion, and Jones’ vocals. The songs seem intensely personal, and made much more so by the intimacy of the barebones recording. Jones is the type of songwriter who says she has a “secret that [she’ll] never tell” only to spill her guts in the very next line. Everything is a whisper, a confession; it’s obvious that the tunes are coming from a very personal place.
Wetter may be a newborn band, but with Jones lead they already have a suite of very strong material under their belts. Hopefully soon they’ll have a few more tracks to share as a band, but for now enjoy Jones’s people you may know below. And keep an eye out for Wetter at a venue near you – they don’t have anything scheduled in the immediate future but doubtlessly they will soon.
