Listen to songs from Whitney’s cover song 12″ (Show SUNDAY in Minneapolis!)
Whitney formed out of the ashes of the beloved glam/power pop band Smith Westerns, and continued down the path of blown out, ambitious, beautiful pop music with delicate vocals floating above the fray. The group released a great debut LP last year, and are now following up with a covers 12″. You can listen to a few of the tracks from the record in the post, with the band’s version of “Gonna Hurry (As Slow As I Can)” by Dolly Parton above, and “You’ve Got A Woman” by Dutch psych pop band Lion below. Both are exactly what you’d expect, and are both love letters to influences and smart takes on songs that helped shape the SW/Whitney sound. The 12″ is out digitally now, and will be for sale in June.
The band will visit Minneapolis Sunday night for a sold out show at the Triple Rock Social Club.
