Introducing XOXO TECH / Stream “Alien Dream Software”
It’s kind of a shame that the deadline for Picked To Click ballots has already passed – I think Minneapolis band XOXO Tech just might have made my list had I been a little hipper on the uptake. The core duo (consisting of Mariel Oliveira of The Controversial New “Skinny Pill and Joseph Carl Berns of American Cream) creates bubbly Italo Disco-influenced patchwork pop songs, each a kaleidoscope of synths, sampling, sound effects, and vocoder pitching. The sound carries a distinctly Hypnagogic pop flavor – and as the artwork for the groups’s debut tape Alien Dream Software seems to suggest it might make a good accompaniment to warped fever dreams of 80’s roller discos. For everyday consumption though it simply makes for excellent, interesting, dance music. You can stream the whole thing below. The band has TWO upcoming shows you can catch them at, including at Dead Media on 10/20 (tomorrow) as well as BlockFort later that night (details here).
