Introducing: Robosapien’s off-kilter electro post-punk (release show TONIGHT!)
Robosapien is a project of former Naive Sense member Thomas Rehbein and what seems like a rotating cast of collaborators. The vibes are disparate, but lean toward Electric Six if they had wanted to sound like Devo on a synth excursion. Over the 11 songs (including a They Might be Giant’s cover), the group meld a funhouse sound with more serious (the band call them “paranoid”) lyrics. Koo Koo Kangaroo guest on one of the songs, and I thought of the band listening to the album, albeit recognizing that these songs are darker and lean more towards the krautrock spectrum than the the jokey Koo Koo Kangaroo’s kid-friendly mock-rap.
You can listen to Robosapien’s self-titled debut LP below, and catch the band live tonight (Sat, 2/11) at Mortimers in South Minneapolis for their record release show. Joining the group will be Citric Dummies & Deleter, along with promised comedy and dj sets. More info and FB RSVP HERE.
