Tape Tuesday: The manic, technicolor electronic chaos of Do Pas O’s outstanding Join the Fucking Drum Circle CS

Join the Fucking Drum Circle, the 2017 tape from Do Pas O, is one of the more crystalized examples of beauty within chaos that I’ve found in recent years. The album is, by any objective measure, a overwhelming mess of noise. Especially on headphones, the album is a sonic blast of thudding drums, tambourine jangles, angular synth stabs and waves of noise. The album is a bit like riding a trippy ferris wheel while being blasted in the face with firehose. It is over in the blink of a dilated eye, and even with the head-spinning kaleidoscope of sound, I’ve found myself listening to this record over and over and over the last few months.

It is eight songs of the most engaging sonic blasts of weirdo pop I can remember, and it is an album that I may try to add to my 2018 best of list despite not coming out this year because I’m so mad I missed it in 2017. Listen below to the digital version and if, like me, you find yourself in love with this album, buy the beautiful orange tape from the always-great Chicago label Hausu Mountain.
