Check out the reworking of “Resolution” from New Mattson 2 LP “Play A Love Supreme” (St. Paul show MONDAY!)
Mattson 2 is a duo of brothers who create mostly instrumental music that sounds larger than you would expect two musicians to be able to create. The opened for Khruangbin this spring at the Turf Club and nearly stole the show (it just ended up being one of the best back-to-back sets I’ve seen this year) and left me very interested in hearing more from the band. I was a bit surprised when that ended up being a “reinterpretation” of John Coltrane’s seminal album A Love Supreme. I’ll let you, the reader, decide whether this project seems like a good idea, but you can tell from the video above (and the whole album which is released now) that the brothers did a good job of capturing the spirit of this great LP.
