If art is truly a reflection of the world we live in, then our world is currently a pretty scary place. This will probably come as a surprise to no one but ever since Trump started this country on its current downward trajectory, we’ve seen a steady gush of art that attempts to come to terms with an increasingly anxious, violent, and unstable world. The latest comes from Sister Species, the brainchild of Abby and Emily Kastrul (and now a full octet) which starts their newest album with the questions “how will you cope / when your world is on fire?”
For the Kastruls and company anyway, that coping seems to involve channeling those feelings and experiences into orchestral pop music. They have a new record coming out on 11/29 entitled Heavy Things Do Move and it promises to be an introspective and deeply emotional work, in the trappings of a buoyantly vibrant collection of tunes. They recently released a triptych of videos for two of the album’s songs as well as one ‘remix.’ You can check that out below and find out more information about their album and release show here.
