ICYMI (Best of 2018): Chicago Rapper Noname Lives up to Hype on Debut Full Length Room 25 | Watch Short Film of LP Highlight “Blaxploitation”

We are coming up on year end list time and we realized that we didn’t get around to posting about some of the music that will end up on our “best of” lists. The “ICYMI (Best of 2018)” series allows us to give an appreciative nod to some songs and records we loved this year beyond just dropping them into a list. Enjoy!

Chicago MC Noname set the bar high on her debut mixtape, the amazing Telephone, setting up possibly unrealistic for her long-hyped debut LP, Room 25. But luckily when the album dropped earlier this year it was instantly clear that she delivered in a serious way on her new record. She still has boatloads of sharp lyrics and lush/soulful grooves, and she added in an even deeper level of social commentary throughout the album. Room 25 is worth your time from top to bottom, but in this post you can check out the album standout “Blaxploitation,” which was given the short movie treatment that you can watch above. Room 25 is one of the most engaging albums of the year, a record that has beats that bring a smile to your face, rhymes that have you hitting rewind and a vision that never feels stale. Noname continues show that she is one of the top talents in the rap game right now.

After letting yourself soak in this album, you can see Noname live on her national tour when she stops by First Ave on January 25th. More info/tickets HERE.
