ICYMI (Best of 2018): The Lo-Fi Soulful Pop of Breakfast by The Samps
When I saw this album pop up in my inbox I did a double take on the name The Samps, but a quick look back on the site reminded me that they are the same band I had taken a fancy to many years ago. (2011!) I was happy to find that their sound — funky & soulful samples, late-night dance floor grooves and lush pop melodies, all wrapped in a lo-fi fog — is still intact and sounding as fresh as ever on their new LP Breakfast. You can listen to the woozy 13-song LP, released on Gloriette Records (Ariel Pink, Nite Jewel, Puro Instinct, etc), via their bandcamp below. The record only came out last month, but seems to be very sold out.
