ICYMI (Best of 2018): Venetian Snares & Daniel Lanois’s Collaborative Self-Titled LP is Both Harsh and Beautiful

Daniel Lanois and Aaron Funk (Venetian Snares) are well-established players in their own arenas (lush lap steel and twitchy electronics, respectively) who after playing together on random occasions came together for one of the more mind-bending releases of 2018. At times soft and pretty, at times harsh and rough, it is a roller coaster ride that sometimes feels like they are pushing you (and your eardrums) to the limits, but it’s worth the ride.
